Hector
is a six year old boy from the Dominican Republic.
He has a fighter’s spirit and a smile that
would melt your heart. Hector also has a congenital
heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot. Without
treatment, this condition is life threatening.
Hector traveled to Jacksonville in October 2004
and received his first surgery to repair his tiny
heart. Upon arrival, Hector was literally blue
from the lack of oxygen in his blood. In his little
village in the Dominican Republic, the other children
called him the “blue boy”.
Thanks
to a shunt that was placed inside his heart, Hector
is no longer blue. He will need to return to Florida
over the summer to finish repairing his heart,
but already he is able to ride a tricycle for
the first time in his life and not become winded.
Hector has a chance to take on the world, and
with a spirit like his… he probably will.
